Highline is a typeface inspired by the immense architecture of New York. The assignment was to create a typeface inspired by a video of choice. I took ‘Just Like The Movies’, a film in which New York skyscrapers and architecture (and especially the Twin Towers) play a great role. I took a typeface and a poster and and used them as a foil to the idea of feeling incredibly small compared to the giant city shapes. The sensation of being human in the city formed the basis of the design.
The name Highline was chosen for the typeface, as it quite literally reflects the importance of both height and lines. Besides that, it also refers to the city’s park ‘The High Line’.
